Outdoor Styling
For an outdoor winter maternity session, it’s best to choose outfits that photograph beautifully in layers, feel cozy and natural, and remain practical for walking and spending time outside.
Outdoor clothing recommendations:
- Wool coats or parkas
- Chunky knit sweaters
- Turtlenecks and thick knit layers
- Warm scarves, hats, and mittens
- Natural fabrics with matte textures
Footwear for outdoor photos:
- Leather or suede boots
- Insulated winter boots in neutral tones (beige, brown, black)
- Classic, simple boots without bold details or visible logos
Warm outerwear and winter boots look very natural in photos and help create a cozy, seasonal feel.
Please avoid outdoors:
- Athletic sneakers
- Bright or high-contrast shoes
- Shiny materials or heavy decorative elements
Cottage (Indoor) Styling
For indoor photos at the cottage, we aim for a soft, warm, and timeless look that feels natural and relaxed.
Colours & fabrics:
- Soft neutrals: white, cream, beige, warm grey, oatmeal, soft brown, muted mustard
- Black can be used sparingly and balanced with lighter tones
- Be cautious with blue — many shades can reflect harshly on skin indoors
- Matte fabrics photograph much better than shiny ones
- Natural materials such as cotton, wool, and knitwear work best
- I recommend skipping denim indoors and choosing trousers, skirts, or soft knit pants instead
Shoes & small details:
- Shoes are optional — we can also shoot barefoot
- If barefoot, please avoid socks (they tend to look distracting in photos 🙂)
- Keep jewellery minimal and natural
- Avoid hair ties or bracelets on wrists
What to Avoid (Outdoors & Indoors)
To keep your photos timeless and elegant, please avoid:
- Sequins, rhinestones, glitter, or sparkly fabrics
- Loud prints or large patterns
- Shiny or synthetic materials
- Tight or uncomfortable clothing
- Visible logos or branded items
- Smartwatches, fitness trackers, or electronic watches
- Neon or overly vibrant colours
- Identical matching outfits
Collaboration
I truly appreciate when couples take part in the preparation process. Since I feel responsible for the final visual result, I kindly ask you to send photos of the outfit options you’re considering. This helps us create a cohesive and harmonious look together, and I’m always happy to guide you.
