For your maternity session, we want the photos to feel natural, warm, and timeless. Thoughtfully chosen outfits help create a beautiful and harmonious look for the whole family.Since we will photograph both indoors and outside, it’s best to choose outfits that are comfortable, coordinated, and appropriate for early spring weather.
Outdoor Styling (Early Spring)
Late March weather can still be quite cold, so layering works best for outdoor photos. Cozy textures and natural fabrics photograph beautifully and help create a soft seasonal atmosphere.
Recommended clothing
- Wool coats or classic parkas
- Knit sweaters or cardigans
- Turtlenecks or layered tops
- Long knit dresses for maternity (beautiful under a coat)
- Soft scarves for texture (optional)
Layering works especially well in photos. For example:
dress + cardigan + coat, or sweater + coat.
Footwear
- Leather or suede boots
- Simple ankle boots
- Classic winter boots in neutral tones
Please avoid:
- athletic sneakers
- bright or colourful shoes
- large logos
For the child
Children look best in simple, cozy clothing such as:
- knit sweaters
- warm overalls
- wool coats
- neutral winter hats
Please try to avoid bright cartoon prints or neon colours.
Indoor Styling (Home Session)
For the indoor part of the session, we aim for a soft, relaxed lifestyle look that feels natural and intimate.
Colours that photograph beautifully
Soft, natural tones work best and help create a timeless and harmonious look.
Recommended colours:
- white
- cream
- beige
- oatmeal
- soft brown
- warm grey
- muted green
- brick / terracotta tones
- burgundy / deep wine colours
- other soft, muted natural colours
These colours work beautifully together and photograph well both indoors and outdoors.
Try to keep the palette natural and cohesive rather than bright or highly saturated.
Fabrics
Natural fabrics photograph best:
- cotton
- knitwear
- wool
- linen blends
Matte fabrics usually look much better in photos than shiny materials.
What to Avoid
To keep the photos timeless and elegant, please avoid:
- neon or very bright colours
- large prints or bold patterns
- sequins or glitter
- shiny synthetic fabrics
- visible logos or branded clothing
- smartwatches or fitness trackers
- identical matching outfits (coordinating colours works much better)
Outfit Questions
If you have any doubts about which outfit to choose, you are always welcome to send me a few options. I’ll be happy to help you decide what will look best for the session.
Most importantly, please choose clothing that feels comfortable and allows you to move freely. Clothing should not be too tight or restrictive so that you can relax and enjoy the session.
